Why do You Celebrate Christmas?

Simpler Times, an oil painting by my wonderful husband

In our house we celebrate Christmas because it is Jesus' birthday.  Or at least it is a date that is close to the date that has been ascribed as His birth date.

All around the south central part of Pennsylvania, we can see Christmas lights, and manger scenes and Santa Clause's in all sorts of forms.

But when I look at this picture I see a mom and dad, and perhaps there is a little one hiding under the blankets.  This home obviously belongs to a large family, and there are children in the family, hence the snow man.  Ahhh, I could so live in this fine home.  I call this a home because it is clearly not a house.  It is a home.  It is a home that, I bet in the summer, has nicely manicured lawns, with children tumbling about and playing and loving one another.  I would also say in looking at this picture, that while the family that lives here knows about Santa, they also understand that Christ is the center of the Christmas season.

I am beginning to see a humorous side to the people or groups that are going around the country asking that nativity scenes be removed.  I wonder what would become of things if a situation like the Christian Coalition, went around and asked for Santa's and all of the more worldly decorations be removed from public buildings.  Just a thought...I am not advocating that this be done either.  But let us all try to live more peacefully together.  And let us all enjoy our Christmas decorations what ever they may be.  What is important is that,  if God hadn't created the world there would be no Christmas.  And if God hadn't created man, there would be no Christmas.  And if God hadn't created Satan, there would be no Christmas.  And if God hadn't created Jesus Christ, there would be no Christmas.

If we look in Merriam's dictionary we find the following:

Definition of CHRISTMAS

1: a Christian feast on December 25 or among some Eastern Orthodox Christians on January 7 that commemorates the birth of Christ and is usually observed as a legal holiday

So in my point of view I really think that everyone should just hush up when it comes to what decorations are displayed, because this really is all about the birth of a baby.  A baby that was born for a purpose, and that purpose was to be the sacrificial lamb, so that all of us mortals, that accept His divinity and that He is the sacrificial Lamb provide for us by God, His Father, into our hearts and lives can have eternal life with Him in heaven.

Well I must get ready for work, seeing it is Monday, so I will be back with you tomorrow at which point this will be continued.  Because I feel a need to express my opinion about this particular subject.

Okay, so you know what you need to do, go and be a blessing!
