Well it appears that the tribes of Benjamin, Judah, and the Levites and those that the Lord had ignited a fire within that were inspired to g.o to their homelands and to build a temple to the Lord.
And they took with them vessels (container) of silver and gold and other goods . They also took with them beasts. And it appears that those that didn't return with them gave them some of the goods and beasts that they needed, and these displaced Jews did this willingly. I would think that they may have felt that they secretly wanted to go home, but maybe they didn't feel they were up to the travel. Remember the travel that they participated in was a lot different than the way that we travel today. Also where they were going was demolished and they would not have homes until the built them, plus where they were going was under the control of a different empire...they were really walking into the lions den if you would!
Okay back some years when Nebuchadnezzar had conquered Jerusalem, he had ordered the removal of the gold and silver vessels from the house of the Lord and had taken them away to his house of his gods. Well when Cyrus became king he then returned these items to the Jewish people to take with them to place them back were they belonged....there were
30 chargers of gold
1000 chargers of silver
29 knives
30 basons of gold, silver basins of a second sort 410
1000 and other vessels. And more....
All the vessels totaled up to 5400 silver and gold vessels. Can you imagine the weight of all of these items. And they didn't have an F150 Diesel truck with a trailer attached to pile everything on....they had donkeys and maybe some camels. Anyway there journey was, I am sure quite arduous. But our God is great and He will bring us thru any and all difficulties.
Wow can you just imagine this journey, I would love to know how long this trip took but I can seem to find this, if any of you come across this information please jot a note to me...and you know it....go and be a blessing to someone today, and tomorrow we will start on the second chapter of Ezra.
